Summary:
In a peri-urban agricultural area, the project will develop and pilot livelihood enhancement and poverty reducing activities that will then be rolled out into the implementation of a proposed loan project. Activities could be linked to agricultural modernization, improvement in agricultural production and processing, and tourism.
Poverty-Environment Linkage:
The main beneficiaries of the project -- poor farmers in selected villages -- will receive support to acquire skills aimed at: (i) improvement of on-farm livelihood through enhanced technical skills, such cropping, selection of markets, and value-chain access, and (ii) improvement of off-farm employability, primarily through the provision of vocational training in areas such as eco-tourism that will benefit from improved environmental conditions in the degraded areas.
Expected Outputs:
- Needs assessment of the subproject beneficiaries to achieve improved and sustainable livelihoods
- Methodologies that allow participants from the target group to acquire capacities and knowledge to increase their income and job stability
- Vocational training and capacity building manuals based on the assessment and methodologies
- Pilot activities as proposed and developed through participatory processes
