The workshop brought farmers directly into the debate on the management of the Agricultural Biodiversity resources they have developed and used for millennia to provide food and livelihood security for billions of people. It concluded that Agricultural Biodiversity must form a key dimension of any sustainable agriculture strategy and policy as well as environmental policies.

UNEP-WCMC brought together a side event on behalf of the Environmental Management Group [] in the margins of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification’s 9th Conference of the Parties [UNCCD] held in Buenos Aires, Argentina. This event was an avenue for open consultation in support of the EMG’s forthcoming report encouraging all UN agencies to join efforts in delivering on a compeling new vision for drylands development.

March 2-4, 2010 marked the first High Level Seminar on Environmentally Sustainable Cities (HLS ESC) organized by the governments of Indonesia, Japan, Australia and Singapore in Jakarta City, Indonesia.

The three-day meeting brought together representatives of environment ministries, local governments, international organizations, NGOs, academe and front-line experts on urban environmental management issues in Asia to discuss the ongoing activities on ESC at the city level and to foster collaborative actions between stakeholders to achieve ESC under the East Asia Summit.

Biodiversity conservation and sustainable forestry are vital for the prosperity and security of all nations. Recognizing this, USAID supports forestry and biodiversity activities in 60 countries around the world, and in FY 2008, the Agency invested a record $202 million toward biodiversity and almost $114 million in sustainable forestry. This report provides USAID’s partners and the public with a summary of the Agency’s latest approaches, activities, and results.
